Job brief

We are looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) engineer to manage all Quality Assurance and IV&V activities for a portfolio of projects/systems to ensure product quality.

QA engineer responsibilities include providing process guidance to the development teams during release planning sessions and backlog grooming sessions; conducting design reviews, assessing critical project deliverables, providing oversight development activities and ensuring adequate tests are conducted to ensure code is ready and free of defects before deployment.  You will ensure teams are implementing tests, debugging and defining corrective actions and assisting with Root Cause analysis when a failure occurs.  You will also review system requirements and track quality assurance metrics (e.g. defect densities and open defect counts.)  The QA engineer will ensure development teams’ code is security and Section 508 compliant by assessing test reports. 


QA Engineer Responsibilities Summary:

  • Reviewing quality specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback in an agile development environment where most teams are doing DevOps
  • Creating detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Estimating, prioritizing, planning and coordinating quality assurance activities
  • Ability to assess CI/CD pipelines, backlogs and pipeline tools and determine the quality and completeness of testing efforts
  • Able to handle multiple projects in a portfolio simultaneously


Experience and Education Requirements

  • 5+ years proven work experience in software development
  • 5+ years proven work experience in software quality assurance
  • 5+ years experience working in an Agile/Scrum/DevOps development process
  • Experience working with applications in AWS or other major cloud platforms
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools
  • Experience with performance and/or security testing is a plus
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject



  • Review user stories, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Review and help create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Help estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities
  • Review automation scripts using open source tools
  • Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
  • Assess testing processes for new and existing products to ensure they meet agency standards and client needs
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. project manager, developers and product owner) to identify system requirements
  • Monitor test results, observe UAT, review debugging process results
  • Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
  • Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts
  • Stay up-to-date with new automated testing tools, automated build and deployment tools, and test strategies
