As Private Cloud Technical Architect Director, the candidate will provide executive-level technical leadership for the strategy, architecture, modernization, and delivery of private cloud platforms and enterprise infrastructure solutions. This role requires a proven record of success leading complex data center, virtualization, automation, and cloud transformation initiatives across large-scale client environments. The Director will guide architecture decisions, establish technical roadmaps, govern solution standards, and partner with delivery, security, operations, and account leadership to ensure resilient, secure, scalable, and cost-effective private cloud solutions. This role is based in Austin, TX and requires presence in the NTT DATA office two to three days per week, along with onsite participation in customer meetings as needed. The role will work closely with senior leaders to align technology capabilities to business outcomes, optimize resource utilization, drive innovation, and ensure solutions are comprehensive, future-ready, operationally sustainable, and supported by a clear return on investment for customers. The Private Cloud Technical Architect Director will report directly to the Account Sr. Director.
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid)
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Defines and leads the private cloud architecture strategy, including platform standards, reference architectures, governance principles, service models, automation patterns, and lifecycle management practices.
- Provides senior technical direction for private cloud modernization initiatives across data center, compute, storage, network, virtualization, container platform, backup, disaster recovery, security, and operations domains.
- Leads managers, architects, engineers, and IT professionals through guidance, coaching, and technical oversight to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Translates organizational vision and account strategy into executable technical roadmaps that align private cloud capabilities with business, security, financial, and operational objectives.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders, department heads, senior management, and customer leadership on architecture decisions, risks, opportunities, technical tradeoffs, prioritization, and transformation sequencing.
- Ensures private cloud and enterprise infrastructure solutions are designed for scalability, reliability, automation, observability, availability, security, performance, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Creates a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement while leading teams through complex change, modernization, and transformation programs.
- Oversees the planning, design, implementation, transition, and measurement of private cloud platforms and related IT systems, balancing agility and innovation with stable, secure, and efficient operations.
- Provides executive technical governance for large or complex projects, ensuring architecture quality, delivery progression, value realization, risk management, and alignment with client and account priorities.
- Manages technology planning, cost optimization, vendor engagement, software and hardware evaluation, and financial stewardship to maximize business outcomes and operational value.
- Stays current on emerging private cloud, hybrid cloud, automation, AI-enabled operations, cybersecurity, and infrastructure technologies, recommending practical adoption paths that improve service quality and reduce risk.
- Participates in vendor evaluation, contract review, solution selection, and partner management to ensure cost-effective, secure, and reliable private cloud services and solutions.
- Partners effectively with third-party service firms, portfolio management, cloud transformation, agile delivery, product management, IT security, supply chain, legal, and the broader architecture community.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on technology capability roadmaps, operational readiness plans, migration approaches, and service improvement initiatives.
- Develops and maintains IT policies, architecture standards, operational procedures, and compliance practices relevant to private cloud platforms and enterprise infrastructure services.
- Collaborates with management on organizational structure, operating model design, talent planning, and change initiatives required to support private cloud transformation and sustained operations.
- Supports recruitment, development, retention, performance management, and succession planning to build a strong pipeline of private cloud architects, engineers, and technical leaders.
- Recommends and drives adoption of new technologies, automation practices, and delivery methods that improve outcomes for customers, employees, executives, and account teams.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 10+ years of diversified IT infrastructure, cloud, architecture, or enterprise technology experience required.
- 7+ years of experience in a technical architecture capacity, with significant private cloud, data center, virtualization, automation, or hybrid cloud delivery experience preferred.
- 5+ years managing first-level leaders, architects, engineers, or high-level professional staff required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven record of success leading large-scale private cloud, infrastructure modernization, platform transformation, or enterprise architecture initiatives from strategy through execution.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable, secure, highly available, and operationally supportable solutions across enterprise environments.
- Experience with private cloud technologies such as virtualization platforms, software-defined infrastructure, automation/orchestration, enterprise storage, networking, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and IT service management.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud operating models, microservices architecture, container platforms, security architecture, and emerging technologies such as generative AI and AI-enabled operations preferred.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture tools, graphical modeling approaches, road mapping methods, and repository management preferred.
- Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit tradeoff analysis, technology risk management, vendor ecosystems, and “as a service” delivery models preferred.
Other Key Characteristics:
- Relevant certifications or demonstrated knowledge in ITIL®, TOGAF®, Agile, SAFe®, PMI®, Organization Change Management, Lean Six Sigma, VMware, Red Hat, Microsoft, hyperscale cloud, cybersecurity, or infrastructure automation disciplines preferred.
- Knowledge of Public Sector and State, Local, and Education agencies, including government-related standards, security expectations, procurement practices, and regulatory requirements preferred.
- Executive presence with the ability to communicate complex technical strategies, risks, and recommendations clearly to customer leadership, account executives, delivery teams, and technical stakeholders.
- Role is based in Austin, TX and requires working from the NTT DATA office two to three days per week, with onsite participation in customer meetings, strategic planning sessions, architecture workshops, executive briefings, and transformation governance meetings as needed.
Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting pay range for this role is $132,975 - $221,625. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s actual work location, relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
