AS400/DB2 Data Migration Engineer

Key Responsibilities
1. Assessment & Discovery
•    Map the legacy technical landscape by identifying all active databases, tables, logical files, views, and indexes.
•    Document complex relationships, hidden constraints, triggers, and dependencies embedded in legacy RPG or COBOL code. 
2. Data Cleansing & Transformation
•    Design mapping rules to translate legacy AS/400 data types (e.g., converting EBCDIC to ASCII, packed/zoned decimals to standard numbers) into modern SQL-based formats.
•    Create scripts and use modernization tools to eliminate duplicate records, correct data quality issues, and standardize data for the target system. 
3. ETL/ELT Pipeline Development
•    Build, configure, and maintain robust Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines to move data smoothly from on-premise DB2/400 to target environments.
•    Convert legacy physical/logical files to modern DDL structures prior to loading. 
4. Validation & Testing
•    Oversee schema mapping, data validation, and reconciliation processes to ensure 100% data integrity and accuracy post-migration.
•    Perform dry runs (mock migrations) to evaluate pipeline speed and identify potential system bottlenecks without disrupting daily business operations. 
5. Cutover Strategy & Decommissioning
•    Plan the final production cutover strategy, balancing data readiness with minimal business downtime.

Experience:

• 10+ years leading legacy data extraction and migration from AS400  / DB2 and related operational data stores into modern cloud data platforms.
• Strong experience assessing historical policy, claims, financial, and reference data for archival migration, conformance, and reporting continuity.
• Proven track record defining migration waves, data quality treatment, reconciliation logic, and controls between legacy sources and Guidewire target-state data.
• Ability to design bulk and incremental extraction patterns, historical backfill strategy, code page / format handling, and exception management.
• Experience partnering with business SMEs to preserve reporting history, regulatory traceability, and lineage from legacy source through Silver layer consumption.
