Client Architect – Managed Services

Senior client-facing architecture role | Global managed services environment

Role type: Full-time   |   Client engagement: Multi-year managed services   |   Reporting: Client CTO / account technology leadership

About the opportunity

NTT DATA is a global technology services organisation delivering complex managed services for major enterprises. We are strengthening the architecture capability supporting a multi-hundred-million-euro global managed services agreement, with the role connected into our wider global architecture, engineering, operations and technology communities.

You will act as a senior technical advisor and Technical Design Authority for an assigned area, translating business requirements, commercial goals and cost-saving initiatives into practical technology solutions. The role combines technology roadmap ownership, architecture governance, design assurance and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on solutions that work sustainably in steady-state ("Day 2") operations.

This is a technical leadership role within a long-term client partnership. You will lead through influence, shape decisions in joint architecture forums and bring together the right specialists across the organisation. Business as Usual (BAU) support, implementation and project management remain with the appropriate delivery teams.

What you'll be doing

•  Act as the ongoing Technical Design Authority for your assigned area, maintaining architectural integrity as the managed environment evolves.

•  Build trusted relationships with client technology and business stakeholders, understanding business requirements, commercial objectives and cost-saving priorities and translating them into viable technology solutions.

•  Maintain current-state and target-state architecture, technology roadmaps, lifecycle plans and visibility of technical debt, dependencies and obsolescence risk.

•  Review and assure High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs) and material changes for security, resilience, scalability, performance, operability, lifecycle and alignment with agreed standards.

•  Drive simplification and standardisation through reusable patterns, reference architectures, approved technology choices and the reduction of variants and exceptions that increase support complexity and managed service cost.

•  Use service data, monitoring, capacity, performance and incident trends to identify architecture-led improvements that increase resilience, improve service quality and reduce recurring operational workload.

•  Set an ambitious automation agenda with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), engineering and operations teams, using Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps) and advanced automation to dramatically reduce manual effort and remove avoidable manual triage, troubleshooting, event correlation and repeatable incident resolution.

•  Shape new projects, demands and transformation initiatives with the client through architecture forums, ensuring dependencies, ownership, architectural decisions, supportability and the transition into Day 2 operations are designed from the outset.

•  Consider the long-term economics of architecture decisions, including infrastructure rightsizing, licence utilisation, platform rationalisation, support complexity, automation potential and cost-to-serve.

•  Represent your area in architecture and governance forums, document significant decisions and ensure cross-domain risks and dependencies are surfaced early and resolved through the appropriate technical leadership.

•  Coach and guide technical teams while remaining distinct from routine third- and fourth-line operational support and hands-on implementation.

What we're looking for

•  Significant experience in enterprise architecture, infrastructure, cloud, network, platform or application operations within complex managed services, outsourcing or large enterprise environments.

•  Proven experience as a Client Architect, Technical Design Authority, Enterprise Architect, Solution Architect or equivalent senior technical authority for a substantial service estate.

•  Deep expertise in at least one relevant technology or service area, combined with sufficient breadth to understand dependencies across infrastructure, networks, security, applications, platforms and operations.

•  Strong experience creating and assuring architecture documentation, roadmaps, HLDs, LLDs, standards, reference patterns and technical decision records.

•  Strong understanding of Day 2 service concerns including monitoring and observability, capacity, availability, performance, resilience, disaster recovery, patching and lifecycle management.

•  Demonstrable experience using automation, observability and AIOps to improve operational outcomes, reduce manual intervention and improve the speed and quality of detection, diagnosis and resolution.

•  Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of how architecture decisions influence operational effort, licensing, technical debt, transformation priorities and long-term service cost.

•  Excellent communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to connect business objectives and commercial priorities with technical choices and explain trade-offs clearly to senior client leaders and technical teams.

•  Relevant professional-level architecture and technology certifications aligned to your area of expertise are expected, but practical experience, sound judgement and the ability to build trust are more important than certification alone.

Where you could fit

We are recruiting several senior Client Architects across major technology domains, including infrastructure and cloud platforms, networks and connectivity, data platforms and middleware, enterprise applications and application platforms, SAP, resilience and data protection, and observability, automation and AIOps. Each role combines deep expertise in a primary domain with enough breadth to understand dependencies across the end-to-end managed service and collaborate effectively with specialists in other towers.

How you'll make an impact

•  Build trusted relationships with client technology and business leaders, understand their business requirements, commercial goals and cost-saving priorities, and translate them into credible technology solutions and roadmaps.

•  Drive technology refresh and transformation by maintaining clear roadmaps, identifying lifecycle risks and technical debt early, and proposing practical plans to address them.

•  Lead simplification and standardisation across the technology estate, reducing unnecessary variants, exceptions, support complexity and the operational cost of the managed service.

•  Improve service stability and operational performance through architecture-led change, with measurable reductions in recurring incidents and tickets, less manual intervention and faster diagnosis and resolution.

•  Shape new projects and demands jointly with the client through architecture forums, ensuring architectural decisions, dependencies, ownership, supportability and transition into Business as Usual (BAU) service are designed in from the outset.

Why this role

You will combine the depth of a major client environment with the reach of a large global technology organisation. The role gives you space to build trusted relationships over time, shape significant technology decisions and connect across NTT DATA architecture, engineering, operations and partner communities. You will help make large managed services agreements work globally while building a network and experience that extends well beyond a single account.
