Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Available on shifts for on-call – nights and weekend
  • During the normal working hours (Shift 1 or 2)
    • Review the tickets in queue that needs L3 attention
    • Work with respective stake holders for scheduling down time if needed
    • Provide inputs for CAB meeting as required
    • Work on revising the SOPS and creating new ones as needed
    • Provide inputs for L1 & L2 team as required
    • Coach L1, L2 team on issues that are new.
    • Explore the new technologies onboarded by the customer
    • Review, research the latest and advise customer if there is a need for any patching or upgrade requirements (for ex. Any security issues that recently popped up that would impact any of our servers for which patches would be needed)
    • Create a playbook for uncommon issues as we encounter them and suggest best practices to make processes more efficient.
  • When they’re paged
    • Acknowledge within 20 mins and be online within 30 mins of the page.
    • Review the issue and involve additional team members (WSA, LSA, GCP Core etc.) if/as needed
    • Get on the bridge and provide inputs and assist with solving the issue in hand.
  • Research and recommendations on database products, services, protocols and standards
  • Work with development teams and 3rd party vendors throughout the development life cycle to optimize the use of database resources and features
  • Collaborates with IT to ensure successful application and database implementations
  • Assist vendor support services and IT team to quickly resolve problems
  • Follow release management, change management and quality assurance standards
  • Owner database related problems; pursue resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Open, manage, escalate and resolve Support Requests with Microsoft and other vendors
  • Be the subject matter expert on the supported applications and provide support to the on-call DBA
  • Learn and stay current on the features and functionality of all databases supported by the team
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and standards
  • Provide inputs for status reports
  • Manage/Solve issues in alignment with the Business SLAs
  • Establish/maintain communication with customers.
  • Follow release management, change management and quality assurance standards
  • Identifying & Implementing process improvements working in conjunction with application DBA teams.
  • Assistance to DR teams.
  • Open, manage, solve, escalate tickets with Oracle/Microsoft support

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ yrs. of experience in SQL DB administration
  • Willing to learn new technologies like Mongo, DB, Postgress, Sybase DB2 etc.
  • Good understanding and ability to articulate the infrastructure/ working of DB servers
    • Ex. All the steps and resources involved in adding, updating or fetching a record from DB
  • Experienced in troubleshooting uncommon issues
  • Experienced in usual DBA activities (including but not limited to)
    • Backup and restore
    • Creation of new DBs
    • Solving user access issues
    • DB refresh
    • DB patching
    • Navigating through files/folders in Windows/Unix/Linux
    • clusters, always on environments.
