Job Description Summary: 10+year’s experience
Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled Palo Alto Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and support next-generation firewall solutions across a multi-cloud environment (GCP, Azure, AWS) within a regulated financial services organization. This role will play a critical part in enabling secure cloud adoption by delivering scalable, policy-driven network security architectures aligned with enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and zero-trust principles.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Palo Alto VM-Series firewalls, cloud networking, and automation, with a proven ability to operate in complex, highly controlled environments while driving modernization and operational excellence.
About this role:
In this role, you will lead the engineering and delivery of firewall and network security capabilities supporting public cloud platforms. You will partner closely with cloud engineering, cybersecurity, application teams, and external vendors to design and implement secure, scalable solutions that enable application onboarding and cloud adoption.
You will contribute to strategic initiatives focused on improving cloud security posture, automating firewall policy management, and enhancing resiliency across environments. This position requires a strong balance of hands-on engineering, architecture, and operational risk management in a highly regulated banking environment.
In this role, you will:
- Lead complex initiatives to design and deliver cloud network security infrastructure supporting business-critical applications across GCP, Azure, and AWS
- Participate in strategic programs to enhance and modernize cloud security platforms, including firewall policy automation and secure application onboarding
- Evaluate internal and external security solutions (e.g., firewall platforms, cloud-native controls, policy frameworks) to meet target-state architecture and regulatory requirements
- Analyze high-impact incidents and outages, driving root cause analysis and implementing preventative controls to improve resilience and stability
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain Palo Alto VM-Series firewall solutions, including Panorama, across multi-cloud environments
- Collaborate with engineering teams and third-party vendors to implement secure connectivity patterns, traffic inspection, and segmentation strategies
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions (e.g., Terraform) for firewall policy deployment and lifecycle management
- Contribute to Agile development practices, including designing, testing, debugging, and documenting automation and infrastructure solutions
- Make key technical decisions on architecture, implementation approaches, and risk mitigation strategies, while identifying resource and capacity needs
- Direct and support operational risk and control activities, ensuring adherence to enterprise policies, regulatory standards, and audit requirements
- Recommend solutions to optimize cost, improve performance, and enhance scalability of cloud firewall deployments
- Collaborate with peers, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, and application teams to resolve complex issues and deliver secure solutions
- Engage with internal customers and external vendors (including Palo Alto Networks) to support design, implementation, and ongoing operations
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in network security engineering, with a strong focus on firewall technologies
- Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (VM-Series, Panorama, policy management)
- Experience designing and supporting firewall solutions in at least one major public cloud (GCP, Azure, or AWS)
- Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts (VPC/VNet, routing, NAT, load balancing, segmentation)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation (e.g., Terraform, CI/CD pipelines)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex network and security issues across distributed environments
- Experience working in regulated environments with strong risk, compliance, and control requirements
- Strong knowledge of network security principles, including zero trust, segmentation, and threat prevention
- Ability to lead technical initiatives and work cross-functionally with engineering, security, and operations teams
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience supporting multi-cloud environments (GCP, Azure, AWS) at scale
- Experience with firewall policy automation, policy-as-code, or frameworks similar to FPRG
- Familiarity with cloud-native security services (e.g., Azure Firewall, GCP VPC-SC, AWS security controls)
- Experience integrating firewalls with identity systems (e.g., TACACS, SSO, IAM)
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to financial services (e.g., FFIEC, SOX, PCI)
- Experience with DevSecOps practices and secure SDLC integration
- Palo Alto certifications (PCNSA, PCNSE)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to senior stakeholders
