Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior / Lead VMware NSX Engineer to design, implement, and manage advanced network virtualization solutions using VMware NSX. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across NSX-T (preferred) and NSX-V, strong hands-on experience in enterprise datacenter environments, and the ability to lead complex transformation and migration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Engineering

  • Design and architect end-to-end VMware NSX-T (and/or NSX-V) solutions for multi-site, cloud, and software-defined datacenter environments.
  • Develop logical and physical network designs including segments, T1/T0 routing, load balancing, distributed firewalling, and micro-segmentation.
  • Lead NSX migrations, upgrades, and greenfield implementations.
  • Integrate NSX with vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), Aria Suite, and public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).

Implementation & Operations

  • Configure and deploy NSX components: transport nodes, edge nodes, overlay networks, Tiered routing, security policies, and service-defined firewalls.
  • Implement micro-segmentation and distributed firewall policies, including application dependency mapping.
  • Manage lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, scaling, and operational automation.
  • Troubleshoot complex NSX networking issues across L2–L7 layers.

Security & Compliance

  • Design and enforce zero-trust network security architectures using NSX micro-segmentation.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (NIST, CIS, PCI, HIPAA, etc.) as required.
  • Work with security teams to integrate NSX policies with SIEM/SOAR and identity systems.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Lead client discussions, workshops, architectural reviews, and solution presentations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including cloud, infrastructure, network, platform, and security teams.

Documentation & Process

  • Develop detailed low-level and high-level documentation, operational guides, and design artifacts.
  • Establish best practices, governance models, and operational runbooks for NSX environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 6–12+ years of experience in networking, virtualization, or cloud engineering.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with VMware NSX-T Data Center (NSX-V also beneficial).
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • Overlay networking (GENEVE), transport zones, segments
    • Tier-0/Tier-1 routing, BGP, OSPF
    • Distributed Firewall (DFW), Gateway Firewall, IDS/IPS
    • Load Balancing (L4–L7)
  • Strong VMware ecosystem experience: vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, VCF.
  • Solid understanding of traditional networking: VLANs, VRF, MPLS, VPN, L2/L3 routing, NAT.
  • Experience integrating NSX with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Expertise in automation using PowerCLI, Ansible, Python, or Terraform is preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps and CI/CD processes is a plus.

Preferred Certifications

  • VMware Certified Professional – Network Virtualization (VCP-NV)
  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Network Virtualization (VCAP-NV Deploy/Design)
  • Cisco CCNP/CCIE (optional but valuable)
  • Any cloud certifications (AWS/Azure) are an added advantage.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing capabilities.
  • Ability to lead teams, make technical decisions, and manage priorities independently.
