Job Description – AWS Node.js Tech Lead

We are seeking an accomplished AWS Node.js Tech Lead to drive the architecture, development, and delivery of our high‑performance backend platforms. In this role, you will spend approximately 75% of your time building core backend services—establishing patterns, writing production-grade code—and 25% mentoring engineers, reviewing code, and guiding technical decisions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in asynchronous Node.js development and hands-on leadership within highly available, serverless AWS environments.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & System Design

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable, cloud-native microservices using event-driven and serverless patterns.
  • Define integration standards, API contracts, and system interaction models.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams, ensuring high-quality code, strong error-handling practices, and adherence to serverless best practices.
  • Conduct rigorous code reviews and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.

Backend Engineering

  • Develop low-latency, high-availability Lambda functions and backend services.
  • Build robust RESTful and GraphQL APIs optimized for performance and reliability.

Cloud Infrastructure

  • Implement infrastructure-as-code using Serverless Framework, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform.
  • Ensure environments are scalable, secure, and aligned with architectural standards.

DevOps & Automation

  • Oversee CI/CD automation using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling.
  • Champion continuous integration, automated testing, and deployment best practices.

Security & Reliability

  • Implement IAM policies, encryption strategies, and secrets management across all services.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and logging using CloudWatch and distributed tracing tools.

Observability & Optimization

  • Monitor system performance, optimize Lambda configurations, and reduce cold-start impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Management, DevOps, and other stakeholders to align technical execution with business objectives.
  • Communicate architectural decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of professional experience in enterprise software engineering.
  • 2+ years leading engineering teams or sprint squads.
  • Advanced expertise in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, asynchronous programming, and frameworks such as Express.js or NestJS.
  • Hands-on mastery of core AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, S3, IAM, and container platforms (ECS/EKS).
  • Strong experience with both NoSQL (DynamoDB) and relational databases (PostgreSQL/Aurora).
  • Proficiency with event and messaging systems such as SQS, SNS, or EventBridge.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative delivery practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

Additional Details

  • Travel: None required.
  • Location: Preference for candidates based in U.S. East Coast or Central time zones.
