Job Description Summary

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to provide hands-on operational support across virtual machines, OpenShift/Kubernetes, storage, networking, operating systems, infrastructure automation, and related platform services.

This role requires a technically curious engineer who can work through ambiguity, independently investigate complex issues, query and correlate operational data, and drive incidents from detection through service restoration and customer validation. The successful candidate will apply critical thinking and sound technical judgment rather than relying solely on prescribed instructions or existing runbooks.

About this role:

• Monitor infrastructure services, provisioning workflows, alerts, dashboards, incident queues, capacity, and customer-impacting conditions.
• Query and analyze logs, metrics, alerts, events, and pipeline data using observability platforms such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent tools.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across virtual machines, OpenShift/Kubernetes, compute, storage, networking, operating systems, automation pipelines, images, entitlements, and platform integrations.
• Correlate evidence across infrastructure layers to distinguish reported symptoms from underlying technical causes.
• Develop and test troubleshooting hypotheses, determine the next investigative step, and move issues forward without waiting for detailed instructions.
• Own incidents through triage, impact assessment, technical investigation, cross-team coordination, service recovery, customer validation, and documentation.
• Communicate service impact, investigation status, recovery progress, risks, and required actions clearly and promptly.
• Review infrastructure changes for potential operational or customer impact and communicate relevant risks to support and engineering teams.
• Partner with platform engineers, application teams, and infrastructure specialists when issues cross technology boundaries.
• Improve dashboards, alerts, operational queries, runbooks, knowledge articles, escalation procedures, and support documentation.
• Identify recurring incident patterns and recommend engineering improvements or automation that reduce operational toil and prevent recurrence.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering, Production Support, Platform Operations, Site Reliability Engineering, or equivalent experience demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
• Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues across multiple infrastructure platforms or service dependencies.
• Experience querying and interpreting logs, metrics, alerts, events, dashboards, and other operational telemetry.
• Working knowledge across multiple infrastructure domains, including virtual machines, OpenShift or Kubernetes, storage, networking, operating systems, and infrastructure automation, with the ability to investigate dependencies outside the engineer’s primary area of expertise.
• Experience supporting production incidents and coordinating technical resolution across multiple teams.
• Ability to independently research unfamiliar issues, evaluate technical evidence, develop hypotheses, and determine appropriate next steps.
• Ability to communicate technical findings, customer impact, risk, and recovery status clearly and concisely.

Desired Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic, or comparable enterprise observability platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD or Tekton pipelines, APIs, configuration synchronization, GitOps workflows, or orchestration platforms.
• Knowledge of OpenShift/Kubernetes workloads, pods, namespaces, quotas, services, routes, events, operators, and cluster health.
• Understanding of networking, DNS, load balancing, certificates, storage, capacity, and operating-system dependencies.
• Experience with ServiceNow incident, problem, and change-management processes.
• Experience creating reusable queries, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, knowledge articles, and automated diagnostic or recovery capabilities.
• Scripting or automation experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or equivalent technologies.
