We are currently seeking a Automation Engineer - Intermediate to join our team in Indianapolis (REMOTE), Indiana (US-IN), United States (US).
NTT DATA Services Federal Government is seeking a highly capable Automation Engineer to join our team that will support the North American segment of the Rolls-Royce network. As a global leader in IT services, we deliver innovative solutions to drive mission-critical operations for our clients.
As a member of the U.S. Rolls-Royce NOC, the Automation Engineer:
- Plays a key role in designing and deploying automation solutions to improve various efficiencies in network and security operations across IT environments.
- Reports directly to the NOC Director, this role centers around reducing manual processes in the team and automating workflows related to monitoring and incident management.
- Uses existing tools like SIEM and monitoring systems, the Automation Engineer develops solutions to automate repeated tasks such as sorting alerts, creating tickets and escalating issues to the network provider.
- Creates scripts that connect provider data to NOC dashboards and enhances anomaly detection such as identifying strange or irrational system behavior .
- Works in close coordination with the Systems Engineer, the AE uses various tools and testing scripts to make sure that U.S. locations stay running smoothly.
- Analyzes operational patterns to identify potential areas for automation, such as predictive alerts for OT, and advising staff on how to apply new processes.
- Ensures that the NOC remains agile and capable of protecting the most critical assets of the organization.
- Responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support.
- Defines specifications for operating systems applications and modifies/maintains existing applications.
- Designs, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructure including hardware, software, and various configurations.
- Designs and deploys systems based on business/user requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and deploy automation solutions. Develop and implement automation tools and scripts to streamline network and security operations, reducing manual processes like alert sorting, ticket creation, and issue escalation to network providers for enhanced efficiency across IT environments.

- Automate Monitoring and Incident Management Workflows: Use SIEM and monitoring systems to automate workflows for network monitoring and incident response, integrating provider data into NOC dashboards for real-time visibility and efficient incident handling.
- Enhance Anomaly Detection: Develop solutions to improve anomaly detection by identifying unusual or irrational system behavior and implementing predictive alerts for OT environments to proactively address potential issues.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineer: Work closely with the Systems Engineer to leverage tools and testing scripts, ensuring smooth operation of U.S. locations’ network infrastructure through validated automation solutions.
- Analyze Operational Patterns: Identify opportunities for automation by analyzing operational patterns and network performance data, proposing and implementing new processes like predictive alerting to optimize NOC operations.
- Advise and Train Staff: Guide NOC team members on adopting and applying new automation processes and tools, providing recommendations to enhance team efficiency and align with organizational goals.
- Improve Response Times and Cost Efficiency: Drive faster incident response times and reduce costs by automating workflows, minimizing downtime, and optimizing processes to reduce reliance on manual interventions.
- Protect Critical Assets: Ensure the NOC’s agility and capability to safeguard critical network and security assets through robust automation strategies, supporting compliance and security objectives by automating auditing and monitoring tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
- US Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance or higher prior to start.
- Undergraduate/bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering, network operations, or network automation
- Minimum of 5 years in IT automation or scripting
- Minimum of 1 year experience with Department of Defense (DoD) environments and requirementS.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, particularly Systems Engineers, to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to analyzing operational patterns and identifying opportunities for automation, such as predictive alerting.
- Knowledge of SIEM and Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems (e.g., Splunk, ArcSight) and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios) to enhance incident management and anomaly detection.
- Communication and Training: Ability to advise and train NOC staff on adopting new automation processes, fostering a culture of efficiency and innovation.
- Understanding of OT Environments: Experience or familiarity with Operational Technology (OT) systems, particularly in automating predictive alerts for industrial environments like those at Rolls-Royce.
- Security and Compliance Focus: Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements, with a focus on protecting critical assets through automated auditing and monitoring.
- Hold an approved DoD Directive 8140 (DoDD 8140) technical certification at IAT Level II or III and stay up to date with the latest advancements and requirements.
- Additional certifications such as Fortinet NSE 7, CISSP, or ITIL v4 Foundation.
Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting pay range for this remote role is [$68,076 - $141,826]. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s actual work location, relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
