We are currently seeking a Workstation and Server Admin Linux/Mac to join our team in Mountain View, California (US-CA), United States (US).

The position will be part of a team and include workstation/server support and system administration of Mac and Linux desktop, laptop, workstations and server systems for scientists, researchers, and engineers. Support includes OS and application support of scientific and research lab environments, hardware and software installation, upgrades and troubleshooting, automation of routine tasks (like patch management). This position will monitor system integrity, protection levels, and security related events, ensure that security controls as described in the security plan, are properly implemented throughout the systems life cycle. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide customer service to an end user base with regards to primarily Linux and Mac computing functionality, questions, diagnostics, assistance, and consultations in one on one or group situations via in person, phone, email and video conferences, etc. Ensures customer satisfaction by advising customers on preventive maintenance and configurations which may impact performance.
  • Provide all aspects of system administration, operations, and application support for services needed by the customer.
  • Provide consultation in system diagnosis, and resolution in complex system issues. Resolves product performance problems using advanced tools / technical knowledge to remediate customer problems and conduct scheduled installs. Performs troubleshooting, parts replacement, and repair on servers, desktops, laptops, and attached peripherals.
  • Installation and troubleshooting of highly specialized equipment, including embedded systems such as spectrometers, microscopes, etc.
  • Performs system upgrades, patching and compliance as required by Security Plan.
  • Participate in efforts to develop, push, troubleshoot and report on patch levels and compliance using provided tools such as Jamf and Big Fix or other patching tools.
  • Coordinate and manage moderate size technical projects such as OS upgrades, dual factor authentication, EoL migrations, Virtualization.
  • Troubleshoot PIV and authentication issues.
  • Create process improvements and automation solutions.
  • Create back up recovery policy/process.
  • Document and monitor processes and procedures necessary for operational compliance.
  • Participate in annual security audits. Implement Agency/Center mandates. Configure systems per appropriate security plans.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of administrating multiple operating systems platforms experience, including:
    • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting/troubleshooting Mac/Linux Desktops/Workstations/servers (GUI and command line)
    • Minimum 3 years of troubleshooting and customer support experience
    • Minimum 2 years of experience with patch management, provisioning and monitoring tool
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent years of experience (One-and-one- half (1.5) years of additional experience can substitute for one (1) year of a typical degree program).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scientific open-source applications.
  • Experience with multi-operating system implementation and support in both Active Directory and stand-alone environments, and PIV authentication in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Experience with configuring programming environments for Python and JAVA.
  • Experience with Shell scripting (bash, csh, tcsh, etc).
  • Experience with the Jamf MDM platform.
  • Knowledge of the macOS directory structure and various alternate macOS boot modes.
  • Experience with macOS package management systems MacPorts and Homebrew.
  • Candidate should be familiar with Linux topics, such as ZFS, Luks encryption, Linux authentication such as PAM, certificate management, disk management, Linux hardening, configuration managers such as Ansible/Puppet, system configurations, and others.
  • Familiarity with network services and protocols.
  • Familiarity with CIS, NIST, FISMA or other standards and benchmarking.
  • Understand and recommend software and hardware lifecycle for customer upgrade needs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, flexible, self-directed and able to manage multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as working independently in a dynamic environment.

 

Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting pay range for this role is $71,600 - $149,200. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications.
