Key Responsibilities:

· Manage and maintain the Rubrik data protection infrastructure, including but not limited to Rubrik clusters, backup policies, storage repositories, and replication configurations.

· Monitor the performance and capacity of the Rubrik infrastructure, proactively identifying and resolving any issues to ensure optimal data protection and backup operations.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement backup and recovery strategies, ensuring compliance with data retention policies and regulatory requirements.

· Configure and manage data protection policies and schedules, including backup, replication, and archival processes, to meet business needs and recovery objectives.

· Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to Rubrik data protection and backup infrastructure, working closely with vendors and internal teams as needed.

· Conduct regular backups, test data recovery procedures, and perform periodic disaster recovery drills to validate the effectiveness of backup and restore operations.

· Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Rubrik technologies, attending training sessions and acquiring certifications to enhance your expertise and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

· Provide technical guidance and support to junior administrators or team members, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration within the IT team.

· Document system configurations, processes, and procedures, ensuring the availability of accurate and up-to-date technical documentation.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

· Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

· 4-5 years of hands-on experience as a Rubrik Administrator, managing Rubrik data protection and backup infrastructure in a production environment.

· In-depth knowledge of Rubrik architecture, configuration, and administration, including cluster management, SLA domain creation, storage repositories, and cloud integration.

· Strong understanding of data protection principles and methodologies, including backup, replication, archival, and recovery procedures.

· Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell or Python to automate tasks and enhance operational efficiency.

· Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V, as well as cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

· Solid understanding of network protocols, storage technologies, and enterprise backup solutions.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

· Relevant certifications in Rubrik or related technologies (e.g., Rubrik Certified Engineer) are highly desirable.

The CommVault Backup Engineer would need to have at least 5-7 years of solid CommVault experience. In this role as the CommVault Backup Engineer, you will provide support to a data Center and its “back-up/hot centre” that hosts over 300 applications.  

 

This position is part of a team that supports hosted applications running on both Windows and Linux platforms.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

 

- Implement CommVault Deduplication

- IP Network, WAN and LAN free (SAN) based data backup design and configuration (familiarity)

- Data protection and backup recovery solutions familiarity such as using virtual tape, disk to disk to tape, data replication

- Unix and/or Windows systems administration experience

- Configuring, Maintaining NDMP backups for various NAS technologies

- Configuring, Maintaining and Troubleshooting Database Backups - Oracle, SQL, SAP, Exchange.

- Perform all chargeback estimation, provisioning, and documentation tasks in a timely manner.

- Produce regular reports for management, to assist in cost recovery, capacity planning and consolidation.

- Planning for Media rotation, Management and Offsite Movement Scheduling of New Backups/ Modifying existing Jobs

- Performing Restores Backup Monitoring and Reporting Tool Installation

- Troubleshooting Backup Failures

- Scripting / Automation of Minor Tasks.

- Installation, Configuration and Administration of CommVault.

- Configuring Multiplexing, Multi-streaming and Disk Staging to optimize the Backup process.

- Administration and Optimization of Database Agents of Netbackup on Exchange, SQL Servers.

- SAN and NAS implementation of CommVault e.g., NetApp, EMC-Clarion/Celera. Administration and planning contribution to Disaster Recovery with CommVault for Windows and UNIX platforms.

- Handle issues related to CommVault Catalog databases, Storage Units, Policies, De-Duplication, vStorage APIs, etc.

 

Advanced Technical Skills/Proficiency:

 

- Very strong working knowledge of CommVault

- Thorough understanding of CommVault policy-drive backup/restore architecture and best practices.

- Well versed with configuring and maintaining CommServe, Media Agents and clients.

- Competent in configuring disaster recovery and fault tolerant features.

- Competent in configuring Storage Policies and copies for de-duplicated disk and tape libraries.

- Competent in configuring Schedules and Schedule Policies for data management and administrative functions.

- Competent in installation and configuration of Non-de-duplicated and Deduplication Media Agents in Small to Extra Large environments.

- Competent in installation and configuration of disk and tape libraries.

- Competent in installing, configuring and troubleshooting client backup/restore agents.

- Experienced in Windows and Unix/Linux server administration including routine patching in a CommVault environment.

- Knowledgeable in TCP/IP and SAN technologies.

- Knowledgeable in CommVault firewall configuration and deployment issues.

- Knowledgeable in data center operations including handling tape library configuration and day to day operations.

- Competent in monitoring and administering CommVault daily operations including performance monitoring and resource management.

- Experienced in CommVault Maintenance Advantage incident submission and resolution.

- Experienced in CommVault upgrades, Service Pack and Hotfix deployment.

- Experienced in managing the CommServe Software Cache and Remote Caches.

- Competent in resolving file and system level restore requests.

- Knowledgeable in CommVault auditing, command line operations, logging and reporting features.

 

Required Skills:

 

- Strong background with Microsoft Office, VBScript, batch scripts and PowerShell as well as Unix/Linux scripting for automating manual processes and producing regularly scheduled and ad hoc reporting.

- Some experience in upgrading CommVault 9 to 11

- Must have 5-7 years of solid CommVault experience

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Technology or another related field or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience

Experience: Minimum 5-7 years
