Job Title
Systems Engineering Specialist Advisor – Scripting, Automation & API Integration
Experience
10–14 years of experience in enterprise scripting, automation engineering, and API-based integration development within endpoint management and IT operations environments.
Role Overview
This role is responsible for designing and delivering advanced scripting, automation, and API integration solutions across enterprise IT and endpoint management platforms. The engineer will serve as the primary scripting and automation authority within the team, building robust PowerShell frameworks, Microsoft Graph API integrations, and SDK-based automation solutions that drive operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enable data-driven endpoint management. The role acts as an L2/L3 escalation point for automation and integration challenges across the broader engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
PowerShell Engineering & Automation
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade PowerShell scripts and automation frameworks for endpoint management, IT operations, and reporting workflows.
- Build modular, reusable PowerShell modules and function libraries following coding standards, version control practices, and documentation requirements.
- Develop advanced PowerShell solutions for bulk endpoint operations, configuration management, compliance enforcement, and automated remediation.
- Create PowerShell-based deployment wrappers using PSADT (PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit) for complex application packaging and silent installation scenarios.
- Develop PowerShell automation for Active Directory, Azure AD, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 administrative operations.
- Build PowerShell runbooks for scheduled automation tasks, event-driven triggers, and self-healing endpoint workflows.
- Implement error handling, logging frameworks, transcript management, and retry logic in all production PowerShell automation.
- Perform code reviews on PowerShell scripts developed by junior and mid-level engineers, enforcing quality, security, and maintainability standards.
- Maintain a versioned PowerShell script library with full documentation, change history, and test coverage.
- Optimize existing legacy scripts (VBScript, Batch) by refactoring into modern PowerShell automation solutions.
Microsoft Graph API Development
- Design and develop Microsoft Graph API integrations for Intune, Azure AD, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and Exchange Online automation.
- Build Graph API-based automation solutions for device management operations — bulk enrollment, compliance reporting, policy assignment, and device lifecycle management.
- Develop Graph API integrations for user and group management, license assignment, conditional access policy automation, and identity governance workflows.
- Implement OAuth 2.0 authentication flows including client credentials, delegated permissions, and certificate-based authentication for Graph API access.
- Build automated reporting solutions using Graph API data — device compliance, application inventory, user activity, and license utilization dashboards.
- Manage Azure AD App Registrations, API permissions, client secrets, and certificate-based credentials for Graph API automation solutions.
- Develop Graph API webhook and change notification subscriptions for event-driven automation workflows.
- Leverage Graph API beta endpoints for advanced Intune operations including custom compliance policies, proactive remediations, and endpoint analytics data retrieval.
- Handle Graph API throttling, pagination, delta queries, and batch request optimization for large-scale data operations.
- Integrate Graph API outputs with ITSM platforms, reporting tools, and endpoint management dashboards for unified operational visibility.
SDK-Based Automation & Integration Development
- Develop automation solutions using Microsoft SDKs including Microsoft Graph SDK for PowerShell, .NET, and Python.
- Build SDK-based integrations with endpoint management platforms — Tanium REST API, BigFix REST API, Intune Graph API, and SCCM WMI/AdminService API.
- Develop Python automation scripts for cross-platform endpoint data collection, API orchestration, and reporting pipeline construction.
- Leverage Azure SDK for automation of Azure resource management, Log Analytics queries, and Azure Monitor alert integrations.
- Build ServiceNow SDK and REST API integrations for automated ITSM ticket creation, update, closure, and CMDB synchronization.
- Develop automation solutions using Qualys, Tenable, or Rapid7 APIs for vulnerability data ingestion and remediation workflow triggering.
- Create SDK-based data pipeline solutions that aggregate endpoint telemetry from multiple management platforms into unified reporting stores.
- Maintain SDK dependency management, version pinning, and library update procedures for all automation solutions.
- Document all SDK integrations with architecture diagrams, API dependency maps, and operational runbooks.
API Integration & Orchestration
- Design and implement RESTful API integration frameworks connecting endpoint management, ITSM, security, and reporting platforms.
- Build API orchestration workflows that automate multi-platform operations — triggering actions across Tanium, Intune, BigFix, and ServiceNow in coordinated sequences.
- Develop API authentication management solutions handling OAuth tokens, API key rotation, and certificate-based credential lifecycle.
- Implement API response handling, error management, rate limiting, and retry logic for production-grade integration reliability.
- Build JSON and XML data transformation pipelines for cross-platform data exchange and reporting normalization.
- Develop webhook receivers and event-driven API triggers for real-time automation responses to endpoint events.
- Create API-based dashboard data feeds for Power BI, Azure Monitor, and custom reporting portals.
- Maintain API integration documentation including endpoint catalogs, authentication guides, and payload schemas.
Reporting & Data Automation
- Build automated reporting solutions using PowerShell, Graph API, and SQL queries against endpoint management databases.
- Develop Power BI data connectors and automated dataset refresh pipelines using Graph API and REST API data sources.
- Create scheduled automation jobs for compliance reporting, patch status dashboards, software inventory summaries, and license utilization reports.
- Build data aggregation pipelines that consolidate endpoint telemetry from Intune, Tanium, BigFix, SCCM, and Azure AD into unified compliance views.
- Develop automated alert and notification workflows using Graph API, Logic Apps, or PowerShell for proactive operational monitoring.
- Generate executive-level and operational-level reports through automated data collection, transformation, and visualization pipelines.
Endpoint Management Scripting Support
- Develop deployment scripts and automation for SCCM, Intune, Tanium, and BigFix endpoint management operations.
- Create PowerShell remediation scripts deployed via Intune Proactive Remediations for automated endpoint health management.
- Build Tanium sensor and package scripts for custom endpoint data collection and automated remediation actions.
- Develop BigFix Relevance expressions and Action Scripts for targeted endpoint operations and compliance enforcement.
- Support application packaging teams with advanced PSADT scripting, MSI transform automation, and silent install troubleshooting.
- Create WMI and CIM-based PowerShell queries for deep endpoint inventory, hardware diagnostics, and software auditing.
Code Quality, Standards & Mentoring
- Define and enforce scripting standards, coding conventions, and version control practices (Git) across the engineering team.
- Conduct regular code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve script quality, security posture, and maintainability.
- Develop scripting onboarding guides, best practice documentation, and automation pattern libraries for team capability building.
- Mentor Grade 7, 8, and 9 engineers on PowerShell development, Graph API integration, and automation best practices.
- Evaluate new scripting tools, automation frameworks, and API capabilities, recommending adoption where beneficial.
- Lead scripting and automation knowledge-sharing sessions and technical workshops within the engineering team.
