NTT DATA Services currently seeks a Senior Engineering Technician (HM&E) to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia (US-VA), United States (US).



The Senior Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) Engineering Technician will provide assessment status and operational checks of equipment and systems aboard US Navy ships and submarines.


Specifically duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, inspections, visit processes and reporting methods for visits
  • Demonstrate regular use of accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment
  • Interpret ship's drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite to compile information for reports and history files, transfer digital pictures from camera to computer, enhance as required, and label them for report purposes
  • Interact and support other inspection teams such as but not limited to INSURV, ERAT
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Provide on-the-job training to technical personnel in operation, repair and maintenance (including use of test equipment)
  • Develop test specifications
  • Assist Ships Force and/or involved Navy Technical Activities with troubleshooting, repair, testing and grooming of systems and equipment
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for specified equipment


This positon requires US citizenship.



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent



  • Typically requires at least 6 years relevant experience without a Degree; 2+ years relevant experience with Undergraduate Degree; 1+ years relevant experience with Graduate Degree


Specific Skills

  • Must have an active Secret clearance
  • Six (6) years full-time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine/surface ship mechanical/electrical and or electronic systems/equipment


Desired Skills

  • Eight (8) years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of mechanical/electrical/electronic systems/equipment
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of shipboard air conditioning, refrigeration, high pressure and low pressure air compressors, bleed air valves, combat dry air system, and electronic cooling water systems
  • Proficient using general and special purpose electronic test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance
  • Six (6) years experience using MS Office suite of products including Word, Power Point, and Excel


Environmental Hazards

  • Shipboard presence is required


Physical Requirements

  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
