Epic Network Architecture and Implementation:

  • Design, configure, and implement network infrastructure to meet Epic’s System Requirements and performance standards.
  • Build and support network connectivity between Epic components, including:
     - Hyperspace clients and Citrix/VDI
     - Chronicles and Clarity/Caboodle servers
     - Interconnect, Care Everywhere, and web services
  • Plan for low latency, high availability, and segmentation of Epic traffic.

Load Balancer Configuration and Management:

  • Deploy and maintain load balancers (e.g., F5, Citrix ADC, HAProxy) for Epic services such as:
     - Interconnect
     - Hyperspace presentation tiers
     - MyChart and Haiku/Canto
  • Configure health checks, SSL offloading, persistence, and traffic distribution to optimize availability and user experience.

Firewall and Security Policy Management:

  • Design and enforce firewall rules to secure Epic environments, ensuring only necessary traffic is allowed (based on Epic port documentation).
  • Coordinate ACLs, VLANs, and security zones to protect sensitive Epic data.
  • Collaborate with security teams to support network segmentation, zero trust, and intrusion detection initiatives.

Network Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor network performance using tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, NetFlow, or Epic's System Pulse).
  • Troubleshoot issues related to:
     - Latency and packet loss affecting Hyperspace or remote sessions
     - DNS resolution and name availability
     - VPN and remote access for clinical staff and third-party vendors
  • Ensure QoS policies are applied appropriately for Epic traffic.

Support for Epic Go-Lives, Migrations, and DR Readiness:

  • Participate in Epic go-lives, upgrades, and infrastructure migrations, ensuring that network services are validated and ready.
  • Support disaster recovery (DR) testing and redundant site configuration (active/passive or active/active designs).
  • Document network topologies and maintain diagrams for compliance and audit purposes (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST).
