Job Description

Function: IT Operations and Support → Technical Writing

• Technical Writing

Seeking an astute individual that has a strong technical foundation with the additional ability to be hands-on with the broader engineering team as part of the development/deployment cycle, and deep knowledge of industry best practices, with the ability to implement them working with both the platform, and the product teams.

Technical writer, under minimal supervision, responsible for writing and publishing product documentation in accordance with product release dates, functional scope, and standards for a designated product. Has learned tools and processes. Conducts appropriate reviews and then receives feedback and approvals from subject matter experts. Works collaboratively with other technical writers in peer and copy editing to ensure quality. Collaborates with the lead writer or manager to develop documentation plans and schedules. Adheres to and provides input of improvements to department processes and writing standards.

Responsibilities:

• Focuses on further improving their craftsmanship and extending their skills beyond documenting as directed, in particular:
• Designated writer for a product or product suite.
• Delivers content for online help systems, user guides, and technical manuals as assigned.
• Adheres to and provides input of improvements to department processes and writing standards.
• Provides input to lead writer or manager regarding project scopes, estimates, and completion dates of assigned deliverables against a defined timeline.
• Uses help authoring tool and source-control system to complete specific authoring tasks.
• Collaborates with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders (PD/PMG) to determine necessary content updates.
• Understands product designs that are being implemented.
• Obtains approval of new or revised content by subject matter experts and key contributors to cross-functional teams.
• Collaborates with other technical writers in peer and copy editing to ensure quality.
• Delivers documentation that meets all defined requirements from PD/PMG and warrants product functionality.
• Understands agile software development processes, tools, and techniques; delivers content in an agile way.
• Demonstrates high competency in behaviours such as written and verbal communications, teamwork, interviewing skills, organization, and completing complex work.
• Keeps current with and adjusts to new information design strategies and new releases of publishing tools used.
• Provides input to lead writer or manager on software designs to improve overall quality (usability) of the product.
• Assists lead writer or manager in reviewing customer comments on documentation.
• Provides timely status reports to lead writer or manager.
• Monitors and resolves documentation defects in issue tracking tool.
• Understands and uses technology currently in use to complete day-to-day tasks (such as email, chat, web meetings, goal planning, and vacation management).
• Tracks time and effort.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree with 3 to 4 years of experience in Technical Writing.
• Understanding/experience in developing documentation for SaaS applications.
• Ability to independently manage and work in Agile/Sprint model.
• Demonstrated experience for working with cross functional stakeholders to gather information.
• Excellent collaborator/communicator.
