We are currently seeking a Software Development Specialist to join our team in São Paulo, São Paulo (BR-SP), Brazil (BR).

Hands-on development experience in COBOL Developer with strong expertise in mainframe application development and maintenance.
6-8 overall Software experience


The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM, along with solid analytical and debugging skills. The role involves enhancing, supporting, and modernizing mainframe-based applications in a high-availability enterprise environment.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Application Development & Enhancement

  • Design, code, test, and implement COBOL programs in a Mainframe (z/OS) environment.
  • Develop and maintain batch and online applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS.
  • Work on change requests, new enhancements, and production defect fixes.
  • Ensure compliance with coding standards, performance optimization, and quality guidelines.

2. Maintenance & Production Support

  • Provide L3-level support for production incidents and issue resolution.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes for recurring issues.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations and handle job abends, scheduling, and restarts.
  • Coordinate with operations and support teams for job monitoring and batch optimization.

3. Database and File Management

  • Write efficient SQL queries and embedded DB2 SQL within COBOL programs.
  • Work with VSAM files, sequential datasets, and data manipulation utilities.
  • Analyze performance issues related to I/O, indexes, and locking mechanisms.

4. Analysis & Documentation

  • Understand business requirements, prepare technical design documents (TDD) and impact analysis.
  • Participate in code reviews, peer testing, and QA coordination.
  • Maintain version control and deployment documentation using tools such as Endevor, Changeman, or Serena.

5. Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with business analysts, testers, and project managers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Provide knowledge transfer (KT) and mentoring for junior developers.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies or waterfall review cycles based on project methodology.
