We are currently seeking a Senior Cognos BI Developer to join our team in Victoria, British Columbia (CA-BC), Canada (CA).

Senior Cognos BI Developer Description

As a senior Cognos BI Developer  you will have a strong background in data analysis, an ability to interpret complex datasets, and the skills to provide actionable insights. This role involves working closely with various departments to help drive data-informed decision-making processes based up an established Oracle and IBM-Cognos data warehouse. As part of this role, you will support an early-stage transition towards the Microsoft Power BI suite of tools.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations, drawing meaningful conclusions that inform business decisions. 
• Work closely with Ministry departments to understand their data needs, recommend cost effective solutions and deliver high-quality information products. 
• Design, develop and maintain Kimball dimension data marts using Oracle best practices for data warehousing.
• Develop and execute Oracle SQL queries, scripts, and data manipulation tasks.
• Using the IBM-Cognos Data Manager toolset, Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accuracy. Diagnose and remediate issues within existing ETL catalogs.
• Using the IBM-Cognos Framework manager tool, develop and maintain published business intelligence models, based on Kimball data marts.
• Develop and maintain OLAP cubes using the IBM-Cognos Transformer product.
• Author and maintain SQL, MDX based reports using the IBM-Cognos ReportStudio product. Create clear and concise data visualizations communicate findings effectively to stakeholders. 
• Conduct IBM-Cognos Business Intelligence product upgrades, preventative maintenance activities and support other Ministry infrastructure changes including database upgrades.
• Conduct daily operations to ensure the platform is secure, reliable and accessible. Manage IBM-Cognos Connection portal content and related security settings.
• Support a strategic transition to Microsoft Power BI reporting. Design, develop and deliver Power BI reports based on current Oracle data warehouse assets, or net new data sources.
• Assist in the identification and implementation of technical and business process improvements to streamline data workflows and analysis.
• Follow industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to enhance analytical techniques. 

Basic Qualifications: 

• 5+ years of proficiency in SQL (Oracle or SQL*Server) 
• 5+ years of experience in data warehouses, using Kimball dimensional modelling (Oracle or Microsoft based)
• 3+ years of experience in extract transform and load processes using the IBM-Cognos data manager toolset; equivalent experience in other ETL toolset will be considered
• 3+ years using the IBM-Cognos Business Intelligence 11.x suite (framework manager, transformer, report studio)
• Exposure to the Microsoft Power BI product suite (Report Server or SaaS) preferred
• Undergraduate or Graduate degree preferred
