We are currently seeking a Project Communications SME to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia (US-DC), United States (US).

We are currently seeking a Communications Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia (US-DC), United States (US). This position is in support of a federal corrections system re-integration program. This initiative is critical to the success of re-integration of those in custody back into society by providing them with skills, abilities and opportunities through innovative technologies, as stipulated in the First Step Act of 2018.

The candidate will be part of a cross functional team consisting of government, company and contract vendor workforces tasked with overseeing the development, deployment and support of IT solutions needed and provided to those pending re-integration. The Communications SME will be a critical position, whereas this is a new and emerging approach to re-integration support, education, and skill building through the use and understanding of technology.

 

Job Duties:

  • Bridge business/mission needs through the utilization and incorporation of communication skills and techniques in support of technology solutions while assisting largely non-technical customer staff to ensure that their mission needs are effectively met in technical solutions.  
  • Effective communication with non-technical staff to both understand mission requirements and explain technical solutions in non-technical terms will be critical.  
  • Create methods of communication that portray the importance and impact of the IT system scope and objectives in support of the reintegration process. 
  • Prepare reports, communication strategies, manage a vast amount of information and communicate progress, risks and lessons learned throughout the phased lifecycle of the project.
  • Create and execute communication plans, including drafting internal and external messaging and communications from agency headquarters executives to the field elements and supporting contract vendors.
  • Assist with the ongoing operations of the PMO, including facilitating coordination between programs delivery staff and IT staff.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in supporting projects as part of a PMO
  • Minimum of one (1) years of experience working in the justice system, preferably with re-integration initiatives related to corrections or community confinement
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications (4 additional years of experience with an Associates or 8 additional years of experience will substitute a degree)
  • US Citizen and with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • IT and public sector experience with an emphasis on corrections and reintegration programs.
  • A proven history with the delivery of inmate training and reintegration programs to include educational programs.
  • The ability to track and communicate the progress of multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced complex and ever-changing environment that includes deadlines and required reporting.
  • The candidate should have experience in business analysis, eliciting education and reintegration requirements through the use of mobile and PC and tablet devices.
  • The candidate should have the ability to understand IT systems scope and objectives and to create methods of communication that portray the importance and impact of these systems in support of the reintegration process. 
  • Effectively communicating project goals and objectives.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to generate impactful key messaging is required.
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as Teams, WebEx and other collaborative tools.
